On November 2, 2010, the SAFER and LinkER projects participated in an exercise based on the following scenario:
"Intensive rains in Extremadura (Spain) caused rapid dams' growth. On November 2, 2010 an earthquake struck the region with its epicentre in the north of Caceres. The earthquake caused a partial burst in the Valdecaņas dam and a water wave went down the river. This wave flooded al the areas situated near the river, including a nuclear power plant, and also affected regions down to Portugal".
Following the activation, several disaster extent maps were produced in order to show flooded areas and damaged infrastructures.
The maps produced during the exercise were based on satellite images coming from WorldView-2 and Landsat-7.
