Heavy floods in Croatia and Slovenia left hundreds homeless. Meteorologists estimate that rains dumped the equivalent of a fifth of the average annual rainfall for Slovenia. Overflooding rivers then caused floods in Croatia.
The Sava river for instance reached its record level since 50 years flooding several cities around Zagreb, the capital of Croatia.
The SAFER's focal point was activated on Monday 20 September 2010 by the National Protection and Rescue Directorate of Croatia and by Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief for the ongoing floods in their respective countries.
SAFER delivered first reference maps on Wednesday 22 September 2010 providing a detailed mapping of the areas affected by floods. Until the closure of the activation on 27 September 2010, SAFER delivered several Flood Extent Maps and Damage Assessment Maps to Civil Protection Authorities.
