Floods in Albania - December 2010

Three weeks of heavy rainfall and snow melt caused flooding in the north-western regions of Albania in December 2010. More than 12000 people have been moved from their homes.

The situation around the town of Shkoder was described as "critical", with 2500 homes and 14000 hectares of agricultural land under water.

The SAFER's focal point was activated on 3 December 2010 by the Monitoring Information Centre of the European Commission. A disaster extent map was produced on 7 December 2010, covering the area of Shkoder.
