An earthquake of 6.5 magnitude hit south-east Iran on the 20th of December 2010 at 18:42 (UTC). The epicentre was located south of Nematabad village at 100 km SE Bam.
Seven deaths and hundreds of injuries were reported by different media sources and by the authorities. Although the quake happened in sparsely populated areas, many damages were feared.
The SAFER's focal point was activated on 21 December 2010 by the World Food Programme on behalf of UN SPIDER in support to Iranian Space Agency.
