After heavy monsoon rains in August and September 2011, the province of Sindh in the south of Pakistan was hit by severe floods. More than 200 people have been killed and around 1.7 million acres of agricultural land have been affected. 5.3 million people have been made homeless and thousands of villages have been swallowed up by the rising waters.
The pre-operational GMES emergency management service powered by SAFER was triggered by the WFP on 9 September 2011.
Two overview maps and four disaster extent maps were produced during the period 13 to 25 September 2011.
