Over the last decade, numerous R&D projects have been funded either by the European Commission through its successive Framework Programmes or by the European Space Agency through its "GMES Services Element" (GSE) programme.
These projects that have contributed to the implementation of GMES. In particular, several projects have paved the way towards the prototype services which are being developed in the land, marine, emergency, atmosphere and security domains.
