In addition to the projects developing the main GMES services, several additional projects are co-financed by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme for Research or by the European Space Agency.
These projects help GMES services progressively taking form and bringing better land, atmosphere and marine monitoring services to citizens, whilst also monitoring natural hazards and taking on the climate change challenge. They also support cooperation with non-EU countries in the domain of environmental monitoring or support the protection of biodiversity.
(Click on the images below to access a brief description of these projects. Note that a project can appear in several domains).
Land Monitoring
Projects address a wide range of themes such as forest monitoring (forest degradation, deforestation, etc.), water management (fresh water monitoring, scarce water resource management, etc.), crop monitoring, food security or subsidence. Read more ...
Marine Monitoring
Projects address themes such as algal bloom monitoring, coastal biomass observation, oil pollution monitoring and source identification. Read more ...
