In anticipation of the GMES Marine Environment Monitoring Service, the MyOcean project is working towards deploying a strong and reliable capacity for Ocean Monitoring and Forecasting in Europe.
The MyOcean objective to offer a sole, homogeneous and interoperable system for the provision of ocean observation and forecast is making good progress. MyOcean teams, supported by 12 independent production centres, have worked tirelessly to further develop data servers and interfaces, data standards and systems interoperability. The Web portal will not only be a sole entry point as it is now, but also a centralised product access point.
In December 2010, The MyOcean Web Portal was transformed in depth in order to offer more functionality to users.
- Already registered users will be in a position to access and download about 75% of the MyOcean catalogue directly through the Web portal. This "one stop shop" simplifies the process: one entry, one delivery point and one login for a majority of products.
- The MyOcean catalogue will include about 200 products enabling users to have access to more data and model output.
- The MyOcean service remains open and free of charge for users (costs being supported by the European Commission essentially and by member states).
- For users, visitors, journalists and for anyone interested in the benefits of operational oceanography, the MyOcean website will provide a variety of new and useful information.
- From now on, MyOcean service will be upgraded on a quarterly basis, opening the way for regular service improvement.
