Former Land Projects

The following projects have investigated the land domain over the past years. Other examples of projects can be found in the project database available on this website.

Geoland

Geoland has addressed issues such as water quality, nature protection, the Kyoto-process or food security.

Geoland has established two core services (Generic Landcover and Bio-Geophysical Parameters respectively) which provide the Geoland "observatories" with basic geo-information products. These "observatories" address the following domains: nature protection, water and soil, spatial planning, land cover, natural carbon fluxes, forest change, food security and crop monitoring, bio-geophysical parameters.

Geoland has been funded by the European Commission.

GSE Land

GSE Land aimed at deliver geo-information services over large areas and for a wide spectrum of land applications, based on general geo-information on Land Cover and Vegetation (LC&V) created from Earth Observation (EO) data.
The service portfolio developed by the project covers four main domains:

  • European urban atlas
  • Impervious areas and sealing levels
  • Inland water quality and contamination
  • Irrigation / agricultural water consumption

GSE Land has been funded by the European Space Agency.

GSE Forest Monitoring

GSE Forest Monitoring was set up to address the policy related demands for securing the ecological functions in the forestry and landuse sector. GSE Forest Monitoring provides services in three different policy and user domains:

  • Climat change (e.g. national greenhouse gas reporting, inputs to Clean Development Mechanism projects)
  • Sustainable forest management (e.g. clear cut mapping, sub-national forest information update)
  • Environmental issues and nature protection (e.g. land cover and forest indicator service)

GSE Forest Monitoring has been funded by the European Space Agency.
