During the middle of May, a low-pressure area over Ukraine lead to a very intense rainfall in southern Poland. A large rainfall amount was registered in the catchment area of the Oder (Southern Poland and Czech Republic). These heavy rainfall intensities lead to inundations of the Oder.
The flood peak finally reached Germany on May 27, 2010 in Ratzdorf (at the mouth of the River Neisse).
The SAFER's focal point was activated on Thursday 27 May 2010 15:41 by the German Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (Bundesamt für Bevölkerungsschutz und Katastrophenhilfe - BBK).
During the period 29-31 May 2010, SAFER delivered several flood extent maps covering different areas, among which Eisenhuettenstadt, Frankfurt-Oder, Maerkisch-Oderland and Oder (northern part).
