Floods in Romania - June 2010

End of June 2010, heavy rainfalls unleashed floods in northern and eastern Romania. Numerous people were reported dead and hundreds had to be evacuated from their homes. Several roads and hundreds of hectares of farmland were inundated, dozens of houses destroyed and several bridges damaged. Further rain is predicted for the following days which will tighten the flood situation.

The SAFER's focal point was activated on Tuesday 29 June 2010 11:00 by the National Romanian Focal Point.

The activation concerns four different zones, notably in order to cover areas surrounding the cities of Dorohoi, Ozun and Galati.

SAFER delivered first reference maps on 29 June 2010. More than 15 flood situation maps were provided to civil protection authorities during the period 29 June - 5 July.
