A violent tropical storm struck eastern India and Bangladesh late on Tuesday 13th April 2010, killing more than 120 people. Over 100 000 houses have been partially damaged or completely destroyed, hundreds of hectares of crops such as rice, maize, mangoes and bananas have also been destroyed. Hundreds of cattles where also killed.
The SAFER's focal point has been activated by the UN World Food Programme in order to support relief operations.
Maps are have been requested for two zones: one very large covering an area of India just at the border of Bangladesh and the other one more precise over Rangpur town in Bangladesh.
The map below is an example of the maps produced by SAFER. It corresponds to a situation map for Rangpur produced on 17 April 2010 and based on a Radarsat-2 image.
