Reference maps generated from archived satellite data were provided a few hours after the disaster. Such maps helped relief organisations acquiring a better knowledge of the area where the disaster happened: geographical situation, population density, built areas, road infrastructures, specific infrastructures (e.g. airports), etc.
Several maps were also produced in order to inform relief organisations about the location of spontaneous gathering areas or visible water surface.
