POSEIDON

POSEIDON is a unique monitoring, forecasting and information system for the Greek seas. the POSEIDON system has been developed by the National Centre for Marine Research (NCMR).

By using some of the best meteorological and oceanographic numerical models, POSEIDON provides reliable forecasts of the environmental conditions and contributes at the operational surveillance of the Aegean Sea.

Several Greek institutional bodies participate in EU-funded projects:

• The Ministry of Agriculture participates in ILUP (Integrated Land Use Planning and River Basin Management)
• Numerous unions of Local Authorities participate in NETWET 2 (Networking Perspectives of Transnational Co-operation and Participatory Planning for Integrated Water Resources Management through the promotion of new forms of Spatial Governance)
• The Hellenic Centre for Marine Research participates in MERSEA

Two institutional bodies are involved as core users in GMES Services Element:

• The National Observatory of Athens is involved in "Forest Monitoring".
• The Greek Ministry of Merchant Marine participates in ROSES.
