Establishment of the Energy, Environment and Water Research Center (EEWRC)

EEWRC will develop research, educational activities and proposals; it will also conduct lecture series, courses on energy and environment. Besides, it will collaborate with Cypriot and international organisations and Community programmes and will seek funding for these activities.

The EEWRC is intended as an important research resource for the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East, and North Africa, and as a gateway between the EU and the region for addressing energy, environment and water issues on the basis of science, technology and analysis.

The EEWRC is a research Center under the auspices of the Cyprus Institute which has been established in Cyprus as a novel non-profit research and educational institution.

The Cyprus Coastal Ocean Forecasting and Observing System

The Oceanography Centre (University of Cyprus) has implemented and is currently operating CYCOFOS (the Cyprus Coastal Ocean Forecasting and Observing System), which provides regular oceanographic information, both to local and sub-regional end users in the Levantine Basin. CYCOFOS is operational since early 2002 and constantly improves its modules, in accordance to the developments within the framework of EU funded project on operational oceanography.
