Austrian Cluster for GMES (AC-GMES)

The Austrian Cluster for GMES combines the forces of industry, applied research, university institutes and user organisations to develop sustainable Earth Observation (EO) based services in the settlement and alpine environment context.

The "Austrian Settlement & Alpine Environment cluster for GMES" (AC GMES) can be regarded as milestone towards a substantive and integrated Austrian contribution to GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security). The project is sub-divided into different thematic clusters all of significant relevance for GMES. It aims at further developing EO/GIS based techniques for providing advanced, comprehensive and scaleable urban information services to a broad user group in the spatial planning and urban domain. Furthermore, the Cluster’s research and development focus on the Alpine region will help Austrian science to maintain and extend its leading edge position in the field of "mountain remote sensing". Major focus will be laid on the methodological, technical and organisational combination of individual advanced approaches in a service provider network that can be addressed by users as a one stop shop.

The project is partly financed by the FFG/BMVIT via the Austrian National Space Programme (ASAP). (Project duration: May 2005 – December 2006).
